Staying hydrated during summer workouts
Is your water boring you this hot humid summer?
During these hot humid summer months we have here in southeast Texas, working out or being outside at all in the heat is exhausting! Water just does not cut it, especially when you are working out or doing strenuous activities!
Just this morning, Josh and I did a hard core WOD at our local crossfit box (Go Townies!) and while there are large fans, it is still blazing hot so you sweat at even the smallest movement. Drinking lots of water is great, but lets be real, water gets boring fast, and we need to replace the minerals and electrolytes that we are losing while we sweat under high intensity activities.
You need some extra kick to your water to keep you hydrated! Most people reach for your typical electrolyte water, with the neon colors and list of chemicals and additives a mile long… but do you really want to put that in your body? I know I do not! There are many other natural ways to hydrate with out the additives or funky colors. Did you know you can even make your own?
This is my favorite homemade “sports” drink for hydrating during the summer months, feel free to add different flavors from different fruit juices or adding to make it your own!
Makes about 1 gallon
1 cup Young Living Ningxia Red (for Anti-oxidants)
1 cup of fresh pressed juice (Can be any that you like, watermelon, pineapple, etc, or you can leave this out if you want to lower the calories of this drink)
4 tubes Young Living Ningxia Nitro (natural B Vitamins for energy)
2 cups coconut water (unsweetened, adds natural minerals and electrolytes)
2 dropper-fulls of Young Living Mineral Essence (mega amounts of natural minerals)
the juice of one lemon (for flavor)
the juice of one lime (for flavor)
12 cups cold pure water
Mix together in a large pitcher and serve with ice. Feel free to add your favorite fresh fruits to the mix for a fun twist, like watermelon, berries, cherries, cucumbers, mint, basil, etc. You can also add 4-5 drops of your favorite safe-to-consume-internally essential oil, like the Young Living Vitality oils of lemon, lime, tangerine, lavender, etc.
Enjoy and stay hydrated!
